Dr. Dattatreyudu Nori, Padma Bhushan awardee, is an internationally acclaimed oncologist, distinguished academician, researcher, and healthcare leader whose pioneering contributions have transformed the field of Radiation Oncology and cancer care worldwide. Widely recognized as a pioneer in Brachytherapy and cancer treatment, Dr. Nori has dedicated his illustrious career to improving cancer care, promoting medical education, and fostering global collaborations in oncology.
Dr. Nori serves as Professor and Executive Vice Chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College, New York. He has also held the positions of Chairman of Radiation Oncology and Director of the Cancer Center at New York Hospital Queens, where he successfully led comprehensive cancer care programs and multidisciplinary oncology services.
A graduate of Kurnool Medical College, India, Dr. Nori earned his postgraduate medical degree from Osmania University before pursuing advanced training in the United States. He subsequently joined the renowned Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, where he rose to become Chief of the Brachytherapy Service. His groundbreaking work in High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy revolutionized the treatment of gynecological, genitourinary, thoracic, head and neck, prostate, breast, lung, and pancreatic cancers, earning him global recognition as a leading authority in the field.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Nori has served as Principal Investigator for numerous clinical trials sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and has made significant contributions to cancer research and innovation. His outstanding achievements have been recognized through numerous national and international honors, including the prestigious Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Alumni Society and the highly esteemed “Tribute to Life” Award from the American Cancer Society. The New England Journal of Medicine has described him as “a recognized leader in his specialty.”
An exceptional mentor and educator, Dr. Nori has trained more than 150 residents and fellows, many of whom have gone on to become leaders and chairpersons of academic departments across the United States. He is a Fellow of the American College of Radiology (FACR) and the American College of Radiation Oncology (FACRO), a Past President of the American Brachytherapy Society, and an active member of several national and international professional organizations. His scholarly contributions include more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications and three authoritative books on oncology.
Beyond his clinical and academic accomplishments, Dr. Nori has played a pivotal role in strengthening cancer care globally. He has provided scientific and technical guidance to cancer centers across India, South America, and Israel. He is a Founding Member of the Indo-American Cancer Institute for Women and Children in Hyderabad, a state-of-the-art cancer and research institute inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India in 2001. Additionally, he has served as a Consultant to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), contributing to the development of cancer treatment guidelines for developing nations.
Dr. Nori’s excellence in patient care and medical leadership has earned him repeated recognition among “America’s Top Doctors” by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. He has also been honored by numerous professional bodies, government leaders, and community organizations in both the United States and India for his exceptional contributions to cancer research, education, and humanitarian service.
